据我所知，目前分词可以独立作状语，而名词，动名词得加介词才能构成状语。
after可以是介词也可是副词，后是动名词还是目前分词呢？怎么分辨 ？
我有两种讲解方法：
after作介词，seeing作动名词
after是副词，seeing是目前分词
After seeing the police, he made a run for the exit.
Seeing the police, he made a run for the exit.

after作副词时，单独作状语，后面不接名词或doing形式。
after作连词时，从句不允许省略，需要是主谓结构（含有限定动词）。
after作介词时，后接名词或doing，表示在...之后。
所以，只须after/before后接doing形式，都毫无例外的是介词加动名词。
After seeing the police, he made a run for the exit.逻辑错误。after应改为on。（1、..就...)
Seeing the police, he made a run for the exit.正确。
一个人作了违法的事，见到警察立刻会跑，而不会等一会才跑。所以第一句用after是没道理的。
