关于这个问题,张道真《英语常用动词使用方法词典》(P.359)上有具体的说明:
2. (happen)“恰好,碰巧”
用在由it引起的句子中,后面跟从句(it作为形式上的主语,代表后面的从句):
It happened that the harvest was bad thatyear. 恰好那年收获不好。
It happened that he had to be present at a meeting. 恰好这天他得去参加一个会。
It happens that his sister is a close friend of mine. 碰巧他的姐姐是我的一个好朋友。
△有时前面加so,意思没太多变化。
It so happened that both of them were there. 正好他们两人都在那儿。
And it so happened that the were getting together with the PLA fighters. 恰好这个时候他们正在和解放军战士联欢。
既然it作为形式上的主语,代表后面的从句,那样后面的that从句就是真的的主语。所以,上面所有例句中的that从句与你问题中的that从句都要是主语从句而不是表语从句。
