方法状语可以修饰状况动词be吗

通常说来，表示方法的状语应该是修饰动词吧。譬如：
STOP acting like a spoilt child. 不要表现得像个被宠坏的小孩一样。
His old teacher greeted him like a long-lost brother.以前的老师和他见面时就像失散多年的兄弟一样。
He was so tired after all his exertions, he slept like a baby.一番辛苦后他累极了，睡得像个婴儿。
但下面一句 like a shot 用来修饰was through，如此适合吗？
Jim had left the door openshe seized her chance and was through it like a shot.吉姆没关门，她抓住这个机会嗖的就蹿了进来。

按理说，方法状语是不适合修饰状语态be的，除非这个be与其他词搭配用时具备动作意义，譬如Jim had left thedoor open—she seizedher chance and was through it like a shot. 中的 was through 在乎义上等于 got through。同样地，He was off like a shot 中的 was off 在乎义上等于 went off。
